Benefits of Private Art Lessons
Art lessons are personally-tailored to each individual in the privacy and comfort of the child’s home. All art lessons are original and customized to the age, experience, and artistic goals of each student. The child, the teacher, the art materials, and the creative process are deeply honored.
Strengthen Concentration
Art making can be experienced as a “dialogue” between the child and the materials as they engage in the experience of creation together. Personalized, regular art lessons promote patience and focus as a piece of art is brought to completion.
Nurture Confidence
By engaging with art materials, the child finds pleasure in trying new things and coming up with original ways to solve art-making problems. As this creative individuality develops, the student adds to a repertoire of artistic skills, making critical choices with more and more confidence.
Develop Techniques
A vital aspect of private art instruction is the natural development of skills and techniques over time. This education is approached through both process-oriented explorations as well as project-oriented activities.
“Engaging a private artist to work with a child can have benefits much like those in Suzuki training. Goals, interests, values, and work habits can be talked about while the essential caring of an experienced artist-teacher is generally inspiring. As relationships develop between the child and the artist, unique learning occurs… A private teacher can expand the child’s art interests as he or she shares unique experiences and perspectives.”
Art at Home: Learning From a "Suzuki" EducationBenefits of Art Museum Visits
Art museums provide a special learning environment to engage one-on-one with works of art in a variety of mediums, forms, and topics. These visits are designed to take advantage of the myriad art collections New York City offers to its young citizens.
Integrate Learning
Fun stories about artists and their work are integrated into private lessons. Children’s books that have been recognized for their distinctive artwork inspire original ideas. And regular visits to museums to appreciate specific works of art add an important dimension to the child’s art education.
Foster Creativity
Regular art museum visits nurture the creative and expressive impulses intrinsic in all children. Art appreciation becomes an entry point into deeper understandings of one’s own inner and outer worlds.
Broaden Horizons
Sharing the experience of looking at and talking about works of art in a museum setting encourages the child to appreciate new cultures, alternative narratives, and compelling histories through the eyes and creative choices of world-renowned artists.
“Do the parents of young visual artists fill their calendars regularly with art activities and encourage them to visit exhibitions and galleries? Are they free to visit different places in order to collect ideas and respond to new and exciting environments?… Art making should be an ongoing investigation of life’s arenas, with the freedom to go anywhere and search faithfully through every aspect of the environment for inspiration, new audiences, and ideas.”
Art at Home: Learning From a "Suzuki" Education“Art works should be an important part of all children’s education experience… By providing opportunities for informal, self-initiated interactions with the works and by allowing children to learn through doing, adults can lead children to increase their natural love of pictures and watch art works become as familiar to the children as Snoopy and the Ninja Turtles.”
A Bunch of Naked Ladies and a Tiger: Children's Responses to Adult Works of ArtTestimonials
I began lessons with Reeni last year, at the start of high school. It’s been fantastic, and my parents have been very supportive. I go to an excellent school but there’s nothing like one-on-one, personalized lessons in creativity. The benefits are enormous. Reeni has been an amazing teacher, friend, and guide. I love being creative! It makes me feel special, unique, and confident.
Zoe F.Reeni teaches my daughters twice a week and we could not be more thrilled. They are learning to work with such a wonderful variety of materials! I’ve noticed that Reeni is very good at keeping them interested and engaged in their artwork. My daughters have very different personalities, and Reeni truly respects that. I highly recommend Reeni as a private art teacher!
Mariko H.Reeni has been my nine-year-old son’s private art teacher for two years and I can see why Reeni has such a great reputation. She creates a very calm, comfortable learning environment for our son. Reeni’s teaching style is progressive and interdisciplinary (well-matched to his school’s philosophy), and it’s been wonderful to see his love of art grow. My son is feeling more confident as an artist and we are all very happy.
John K.Reeni is a sweetheart! She is a very talented teacher, with endless patience as well as a deep understanding of the creative process. From the first lesson, Reeni’s approachable exercises and projects appeased my anxieties about making art. And museum visits (with Reeni as my personal docent) have been so inspiring. One of my goals after retiring was to be more creative. I’m doing that now!
